Tepidimicrobium ningboense sp. nov., a novel moderately thermophilic, anaerobic bacterium, belong to the genus Tepidimicrobium

A novel moderately thermophilic, anaerobic bacterium designated Tepidimicrobium ningboense TH-1T (=CGMCC 1.5194T =VKM B-2871T) was isolated from a bioreactor (operating temperature 55 oC and pH 7.7) for kitchen waste treatment in Ningbo, China. Strain TH-1T was Gram-positive, spore-forming rod and the cells were 0.5×2.0-8.0 μm. Cells were arranged into a long chain up to hundreds micrometers at pH 7.0. The temperature, pH, and NaCl concentration for growth was 30-65 oC (optimum 50 oC), 6.0-10.0 (optimum 8.5), and 0-4 % (w/v) (optimum 0.4 %), respectively. Strain TH-1 T grew on a variety of proteinaceous compounds and could grow on a number of carbohydrates. Mixture of organic acids was produced from PY medium such as acetic acid, propionic acid, isobutyric acid and butyric acid. Phylogenetic analysis showed that strain TH-1T was affiliated to the phylum Firmicutes, and belonged to cluster XII of the clostridia. Physiological and growth characteristics of the new isolate are quite similar with those of two members of genus Tepidimicrobium --T. ferriphilum and T. xylanilyticum have 92-93 % similarity. We proposed strain TH-1T (=CGMCC 1.5194T =VKM B-2871T) as the type strain of a novel species of the genus Tepidimicrobium, Tepidimicrobium ningboense sp. nov.
